18th-Century Italian Glass Apothecary Jars (Set of 5)

Introduction

From around the mid-17th century, apothecary jars were detailed with inscriptions that would bear Latin abbreviations of their contents. Deciphering them provides an insight into the vast array of ingredients that would have been stored within, such as cardina for thistle and s-mel-rosa for honey. Each vessel in this set is blown and painted by hand. Due to their age, they are intended for decorative use only.
